philosophy

At The Nest Early Learning Co. we respectfully acknowledge the Gumbaynggirr people, the Traditional Owners of the land on which we live, play, learn, and grow. We honour their enduring connection to this land and their contributions to our community.

Our philosophy is to create a nurturing and educational environment that mirrors the warmth of a home setting, where the voices of children and their families are at the heart of everything we do. We value the partnership between families and educators in the care and education of children, recognising that these relationships are foundational to a child’s development.

We respect and celebrate the diversity of all families, acknowledging the richness that different cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and traditions bring to our community. We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where every family feels seen, heard, and valued.

We believe in the power of co-programming, where children, families, and the broader community are actively engaged in the planning and reflection processes. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of belonging, which is essential to a child's sense of being and becoming. Our play-based program encourages children to explore, imagine, and create, supporting them in developing confidence, curiosity, and the ability to co-construct knowledge.

At The Nest Early Learning Co., we see both children and educators as capable and continuous learners, each contributing valuable qualities to their community. We place significant importance on relationships, between children, educators, families, and the wider community. These relationships are built on trust, mutual respect, and understanding, and we believe that a strong sense of belonging is crucial for everyone involved.

We encourage children to dream big and provide a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental environment that scaffolds their journey towards independence. By fostering strong skills in emotional regulation and conflict resolution, we empower children to build healthy, respectful, and inclusive relationships.

Our educational approach values children’s independence and creativity, balancing structured and spontaneous learning experiences. Recognising that each child is unique, we create learning environments that reflect their interests and are flexible to meet their evolving needs.

Health and well-being are central to our philosophy. We promote healthy eating habits, physical activity, and hygiene, ensuring that children are supported to develop lifelong healthy practices. Community involvement is also a key aspect of our program, enriching the learning experience and fostering a sense of connectedness.

We are committed to empowering, respecting, and guiding our educators, encouraging their ongoing professional development in line with the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics, The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) Version 2, and the National Quality Standards (NQS). By providing flexible training opportunities and promoting critical reflection, we strive to create the best possible learning environment.

Sustainability is woven into the fabric of our program. We embed sustainable practices into our daily routines, aiming to reduce our carbon footprint and support the planet for future generations. By reflecting on our practices, we continually seek to improve, celebrate our achievements, and evolve as educators.

At The Nest, we believe that learning through play is the foundation of early childhood education. We embed essential school readiness skills such as turn-taking, early literacy and numeracy, self-help, and hygiene practices into our daily program, ensuring children are prepared for the next steps in their educational journey.

By adhering to these principles, we aim to create an environment where every child and educator can thrive, contributing to a community that values growth, learning, and the joy of discovery.
